According to an email from Steve Jobs himself, the latest and greatest iOS firmware version 4.1 will be publicly released soon. Already in beta 3, many features and bug fixes have been revealed by developers and are on their way to iPhone users across the planet. Apple has some finishing touches to add to the firmware before release, which is expected in September.
In the meantime, here's a rundown of what's coming in the iOS 4.1 update. First of all, iPhone 3G users will be happy to hear that iOS 4.1 will improve performance on their devices. Many have complained about sluggish performance and other issues after installing iOS 4.0 on this model iPhone. Subsequent fixes iOS 4.0.1 and 4.0.2 have failed to address the issues.
For those with an iPhone 4, proximity sensor issues are said to be fixed in iOS 4.1. Some users have had the iPhone screen turn on during a call, resulting in ears pressing buttons. The proximity sensor software is to blame. Additional problems with Bluetooth connectivity on the iPhone 4 will also be improved in iOS 4.
FaceTime will get more functionality, allowing users to call people with an email address, not just phone numbers. Apple is expected to roll out FaceTime video chat on more devices such as the iPod touch and next model iPad.
Apple's Game Center will launch with iOS 4.1 and allow iPhone owners to play games with others online, share scores and join leaderboards. Social networking features will make gaming on Apple's mobile devices even more interesting, interactive and fun. Users will also be able to control levels of privacy and other restrictions on gaming. Game Center was first introduced at WWDC 2010.
Modem firmware in iOS 4.1 is updated to 2.10.01. Other minor changes include a switch to turn keyboard auto-correct Check Spelling on or off, and improvements to the camera interface in landscape mode.
For developers, new application programming interfaces (APIs) include access to information such as the SSID of the Wi-FI network the iPhone is currently connected to, and the Game Kit framework that provides access to Game Center. Other APIs give apps access to photos in Contacts, add app control of fonts, and provide new ways for apps to save photos to albums in the Photos app.
According to AppleInsider Apple still needs to correct some serious memory leaks in iOS 4.1 beta 3 before the firmware can be released. Overall, this major update should correct some important issues and launch popular new features on iOS devices.

Summary: Currently, PwnageTool only works on previously jailbroken 3GS devices with the old bootrom.
• If you have a Jailbroken iPhone 3GS with the OLD BOOTROM and you DID NOT use Spirit to jailbreak then you can create the ipsw with PwnageTool 4.0 and restore with your jailbroken recovery mode.
• If you have an iPhone 3GS with the NEW BOOTROM this is NOT supported by PwnageTool 4.0
iPhone 3G
• If you have a Jailbroken iPhone 3G at 3.1.2 (but not jailbroken with Spirit) then you should create the ipsw with PwnageTool 4.0 and restore from recovery mode or DFU mode.
• If you have an out of the box iPhone 3G you should restore using a PwnageTool 4.0 ipsw using DFU mode.
• If you have a Jailbroken 3.1.3 iPhone 3G it is very possible that this can fail from recovery mode, if this failure happens you will need to restore using DFU mode.
• As an alternative to PwnageTool, you can use redsn0w on iPhone 3G (on both Windows and Mac) as mentioned in our last post.
IMPORTANT! Whenever you need to enter DFU mode, you will need to do so using PwnageTool.
iPod touch 2G
• If you have an iPod touch 2G (non-MC model) that is jailbroken (but not with Spirit) then you can restore using recovery mode.
• As an alternative to PwnageTool, you can use redsn0w on non-MC iPod Touch 2G (on both Windows and Mac) as mentioned in our last post.

First of there is difference between Jailbreak and Unlock. Unlock means if you want your iPhone to be used by another UN-Offical carrier that has contract with apple. When you unlock the iPhone it can be used with any SIM card in any country in the world. when you only do a jailbreak then it means that iPhone is jailbreaked to allow third party applications to be installed on the iphone and allow iphone to be accessed through SSH. When some one only jailbreaks and doesn't unlock then he can only use an offical carrier SIM card. REMEMBER without jailbreaking you can't UNLOCK iphone alwyas jailbreak first and then unlock because the unlock methods are in cydia as a third party applications or you can also make custom ipsw files using pwang tool which contains the unlock also. There are some types of jailbreaking methods and unlocks. the following are these methods for each method there is full instruction on how to use these softwares and have a successfull jailbreak or unlock. Custom made ipsw files doesn't change the baseband of your device so you will always be able to UNLOCK. to unlock iphone one needs to hack the baseband and apple always changes the baseband when they release new OS so the only way to have a safe unlock is to first of all use CUSTOM made ipsw files because custom made ipsw files doesn't change the baseband therfore you can then unlock your iphone if the baseband is changed then you must wait and cross your fingers if a new unlock comes for the new baseband so my advice to you all is use a custom made ipsw file !!!! :
